Name: Cal Kestis Door: Door pass Canon: Star Wars / Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Canon Point: End of the game. Age: 18 Appearance: Here History: Wiki Personality: Distrustful - Because of the Purge, Cal has had to learn to not trust anyone at first meeting. Or even second meeting, or third meeting. Even when he was saved from certain death, it took him time to not wait for the other shoe to drop and for Cere and Greez to betray him. One of his first questions to them is what the bounty is on Jedi these days, which shows he expects them to turn him over to the Empire to get the bounty. This same distrust serves him later when he encounters an ex-Jedi named Malicos, who had become hungry for power and wanted them to team up to gain more. His friendly demeanor didn’t fool Cal from the start. Seeing potential enemies everywhere is something that continuously wears on him, though, and might make him seem unfriendly. Entitled - After five years of having no purpose except surviving, Cal is eager to find something worthwhile to aim for: Restoring the Jedi Order. He believes that this cause is just and right. It brings him to a planet called Dathomir, the home of a group of Force users called the Nightsisters. He believes them to have all been killed years ago, but one Nightsister survived, and she confronts him to tell him to leave. He tells her that he can’t do that, and hopes that she’ll be able to help him. When she instead chooses to attack him, he doesn’t leave. One might say he has a good reason, because to restore the Jedi Order he needs something on Dathomir, but when she confronts him again, he makes it clear that her actions to try to defend what is left of her home is justification for him to fight her. He considers his goals too important to be driven away. Even once they finally talk and become allies over a shared foe in Malicos, and an understanding of the trauma they’ve both been through, he never acknowledges the boundaries he overstepped. Bullheaded - This ties into the above trait of entitled. The game’s antagonist, Trilla, calls him persistent. I would choose to call him bullheaded. When he has made up his mind about something, such as getting the item from a planet he has been told by its inhabitants to leave, he doesn’t stop and consider other ways to approach it until the damage has already been done. It isn’t until he stops threateningly brandishing his lightsaber and instead gives it to Merrin to hold that they have a conversation (in which, again, he doesn’t really acknowledge what he did wrong). While he sort of worked through this throughout the game, it will keep going into Duplicity, where he will likely refuse to follow rules and laws and stubbornly resist any recommendations to play along. Friendly - Despite his difficulty trusting people, he’s good at making friends and allies even when it doesn’t seem possible, such as Merrin. The droid he carries with him through his adventures, BD-1, is instantaneously drawn to him, and he also befriends an animal called the shyyyo bird on the planet Kashyyyk. It’s a very big bird that he didn’t know whether it’s friendly or not, but when he finds it wounded, he takes a gamble and helps it instead of letting it suffer. In thanks, it offers him a ride up to the top of the Origin Tree. He then gambles again when he finally lowers his guard and throws his lightsaber to Merrin to show that he really doesn’t want to fight. Powers and Abilities: Cal is skilled with a lightsaber, though not to the level of a Jedi Master. He’s also capable of using a double-bladed lightsaber. Since he’s a Jedi, he’s also a Force user. His Force-related abilities are: - Psychometry, which enables him to sense the history of objects and people through the Force - Force statis, which means slowing down objects, creatures, or people, including large targets and small groups - Force push, including large targets and small groups - Force pull, including large targets and small groups - Force repulse, a form of Force push and pull that enables him to push and pull targets in all directions around him, sometimes with a visible effect - Throwing his lightsaber using the Force, both around himself and forward Other abilities: - Understanding Droid binary language - Skilled climber as he was a rigger on Bracca (AKA scrapyard planet). His job was to climb to places others couldn’t reach, which also included squeezing through small spaces. - Mechanical skills, such as repairing droids and lightsabers Inventory: - Double-bladed lightsaber that can also be split into two parts. - A small mechanical tool that can do basic repairs and small changes to, for example, droids.
